The Bill and Muriel Porter Fund

At the end of 2022 we lost one of the “legendary” members of the Parkway Concert Orchestra — Muriel Porter. Muriel met her future husband, Bill, when she joined the orchestra in 1950 as a flute player, and she continued to play until she retired from the orchestra in 2015. Her musical contributions were a constant gift to the orchestra.

Importantly, Muriel and her husband Bill (who played trombone) coordinated and managed the PCO for over 35 years. Even after they retired, Bill and Muriel were the orchestra’s staunchest cheerleaders. Muriel rarely missed a concert, and attended our fall concert in October 2022.

Today, it takes a Board of fifteen members to do the work that the Porters did to keep the orchestra functioning. Clearly Bill and Muriel left big shoes to fill. We know that without their dedication and vision over many years, there would likely be no Parkway Concert Orchestra today.

For this reason, the orchestra is pleased to announce the establishment of the Bill and Muriel Porter Memorial Fund. This special fund will be used to help bring outstanding soloists to perform with the orchestra for many years to come. Both Bill and Muriel were thrilled to welcome the soloists who have performed with us in the past, and we know they would be pleased to have a fund in their name continue this endeavor.

If you would like to contribute to this fund, your donation of any size would be most welcome. You may send a check to The Parkway Concert Orchestra, Inc., P.O. Box 1025, Dedham, MA 02027
